Film Fixer Sydney

Your single local point of contact for shooting in Australia. Locations, crew, permits, kit and logistics, handled end to end.

What does a film fixer in Sydney actually do?

A film fixer in Sydney is a local production professional who handles everything an incoming crew needs to shoot in Australia: scouting and securing locations, hiring vetted crew and equipment, pulling council and national-park permits, and running on-the-ground logistics. FixerSydney is the Sydney production services arm of HiJack Production Services, founded by Jack Cowhig, with 100+ productions across Australia delivered over more than ten years.

If you are producing a TVC, branded content or music video from overseas, a Sydney fixer removes the risk of working in a market you do not know. You brief once. We translate that brief into locations, crew, permits, gear, transport, accommodation and a workable schedule, then keep it all running on the day.

FixerSydney works as a transparent extension of your production team. You see every line item, you keep creative control, and you get one accountable contact in your timezone window rather than a chain of vendors. From a one-day Sydney rooftop shoot to a multi-state road trip, the job is the same: make it happen, on budget, without surprises.

This page covers shooting in Sydney specifically. If your production spans other cities or states, start from Film Fixer Australia for nationwide coverage.

Ten years, one hundred productions, one accountable contact.

We have fixed and location-managed commercial work across Sydney and Australia for over a decade, for production companies including Finch, Sweetshop, Scoundrel and Photoplay, on brands such as Toyota, Google, Lyka and Selleys. We know which councils say yes, which locations photograph the way the treatment promises, and which crew deliver under pressure. That experience is what keeps your shoot off the rocks.

Film fixer questions, answered.

A fixer typically works on a transparent day or project fee plus cost-plus pass-through for third-party expenses such as crew, permits and equipment, so you see every line item. Send a brief and you will have a quote within 24 hours.
Four to six weeks is comfortable for a TVC or branded piece, but we have delivered fast-track shoots on less than a week's notice. The earlier you make contact, even at treatment stage, the more options you keep.
No. Sydney is our base, but we regularly fix shoots across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and beyond, partnering with trusted local fixers when hyper-local knowledge helps the project.
Yes. We guide crews through Entertainment (subclass 420) and Temporary Activity (subclass 408) visas, and coordinate ATA carnets and customs clearance for incoming equipment.
Bondi and Coogee carry the Venice Beach and South Beach lookalike work. The Hollywood Hills double comes out of the eastern suburbs around Vaucluse and Dover Heights. Surry Hills and Newtown read as Silver Lake or East LA. For true Miami pastel mid-century, the Bondi Pavilion and Cronulla foreshore carry the closest match in built form.
Transport for NSW Maritime needs 20 working days for commercial filming permits on Sydney Harbour, longer if you're chartering a vessel or filming around iconic infrastructure (Opera House, Harbour Bridge). Sydney Harbour Federation Trust handles separate permits for foreshore land including Cockatoo Island and the Headland Park sites at AUD 1,800 to AUD 4,500 per day.
International productions access the Location Offset at 30 percent of Qualifying Australian Production Expenditure for productions clearing the AUD 20 million spend threshold. The Producer Offset (40 percent for feature, 30 percent for other) is reserved for Australian productions with significant Australian creative control. Post Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Offset adds 30 percent for qualifying post spend regardless of location.
A standard one-day Sydney TVC unit (camera, lighting, grip, sound, art, hair and makeup, locations, catering, transport, basic permits) runs roughly AUD 60,000 to AUD 140,000 for the shoot day alone, before director, agency, post and talent. Smaller branded content units run AUD 22,000 to AUD 45,000 per shoot day. Hero TVCs with picture cars, stunts, road closures or multiple locations push past AUD 220,000 a day.
